Before You Renovate — Consultation Terms & Conditions
Last updated: September 2026
1. The Service
The Before You Renovate 60-Minute Renovation Review provides independent, experience-based general guidance to homeowners considering a residential renovation project. The consultation is intended to help homeowners identify matters to consider, questions to ask and areas where further investigation or specialist professional advice may be appropriate.
2. What the Service Is Not
The consultation does not constitute architectural, structural engineering, quantity surveying, building surveying, valuation, legal, financial, tax, health and safety, project management, contract administration, inspection, certification or other regulated professional advice or services. No drawings, calculations, specifications, cost plans, surveys, certificates or approvals are provided.
3. No Project Appointment
Purchasing a consultation does not appoint Before You Renovate or Gerard Tibbenham as the homeowner's architect, designer, engineer, surveyor, quantity surveyor, project manager, contract administrator, principal designer, principal contractor, contractor, site supervisor or other project professional. No responsibility is accepted for managing, designing, supervising, inspecting, approving or certifying the works.
4. Information Provided by the Homeowner
Guidance is based upon information provided by the homeowner. The homeowner is responsible for ensuring that information supplied is accurate and sufficiently complete for the discussion they wish to have. Before You Renovate does not independently verify information, drawings, quotations, measurements, budgets, statements or other documents supplied by the homeowner or third parties.
5. Documents
Up to three documents, not exceeding 20 pages in total, may be submitted at least 48 hours before the consultation. Documents are reviewed solely to provide context for the discussion. Their inclusion does not constitute a formal review, checking, validation, approval or certification of their contents.
6. Construction Costs and Quotations
Any discussion concerning costs, budgets, quotations or value is general guidance only. Construction costs vary according to location, specification, market conditions, site conditions, design, contractor selection and other factors. No representation or guarantee is made that a project can be completed for a particular amount.
7. Specialist Advice
Where an issue appears to require specialist advice, Before You Renovate may recommend that the homeowner consult an appropriately qualified professional. This may include architects, structural engineers, building surveyors, quantity surveyors, Party Wall surveyors, planning consultants, solicitors or other specialists. The homeowner remains responsible for deciding whether professional advice is required and for appointing appropriate advisers.
8. Project Decisions
All decisions concerning the renovation remain the homeowner's responsibility. The homeowner is responsible for selecting and appointing appropriately competent and insured designers, consultants, builders and contractors and for satisfying themselves as to their suitability. The homeowner remains responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions, consents and approvals.
9. Project Outcomes
Before You Renovate does not control the design or execution of the homeowner's project. Subject to applicable law and these Terms, responsibility is not assumed for the project's design, construction, workmanship, safety, statutory compliance, cost, programme, contractor performance or ultimate outcome.
10. Homeowner and Neighbour Impact
Discussion concerning living through construction, disruption, access, noise, working hours, neighbours, parking, deliveries, Party Wall matters or similar issues constitutes general practical guidance. It does not replace legal, surveying, planning or other specialist professional advice where such advice is required.
11. The Consultation
The standard service provides one video consultation of up to 60 minutes. Additional work, document review, correspondence or further consultations are not included unless separately agreed.
12. Action Summary
Where included, the post-consultation Action Summary is a brief record of principal discussion points and possible next steps. It is not a formal report, specification, professional opinion, instruction to contractors or certification of any aspect of the project.
13. Payment
The consultation fee is £149, payable when a booking is subsequently agreed. Submitting the website enquiry form does not constitute a booking and no payment is taken when submitting an enquiry. A consultation is not confirmed until arrangements have been agreed and payment has been successfully received.
14. Rescheduling and Cancellation
A homeowner may request to reschedule a consultation by giving at least 24 hours' notice, subject to availability. Because this service is offered to UK consumers, statutory consumer rights may apply. Nothing in these Terms is intended to remove or restrict rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that cannot legally be excluded under applicable consumer law. Subject to those rights and to the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is limited to the scope expressly described in these Terms and no responsibility is assumed for matters outside that scope.
16. Third Parties
The consultation is provided to the person purchasing the service for their own use. No third party may rely upon the consultation, Action Summary or other communications without prior written agreement.
17. Acceptance
Before a paid consultation is confirmed, the homeowner will be required to confirm that they have read and agree to these Consultation Terms & Conditions and understand the nature and limitations of the service.
